The purpose of this document is to describe to administrators and users how they can enable desktop notifications from their organization’s eShare Cloud Web Portal.
Enabling the Desktop Notifications Option for your Organization (for Administrators)
With notifications being enabled by default for your organization, you will only need to follow the instructions outlined in this section if you notice the feature is not enabled for your organization or if you would like to disable the feature.
To begin, an eShare administrator for your organization needs to navigate to the eShare admin console from their cloud web portal (i.e. secure.yourcompanynameandbrand.com). From the cloud web portal, the admin will select Admin Console in the left navigation menu and select the Device Policy tab from the admin navigation menu. Once in Device Policy, scroll down until you find the option Show desktop notifications, this switch will allow you to enable or disable notifications for your organization.
(Note: If the admin decides to turn off desktop notifications for their organization, it may take up to 24 hours for the change to take effect and for the notification prompt and notifications to stop appearing.)
Accepting and Allowing Notifications in your Browser
When Desktop notifications is enabled, users will receive a prompt at the top of their screen within the cloud web portal (as shown below). If the user would like to enable desktop notifications, select Accept. This will prompt your browser to enable notifications.
(Note: If the option for No Thanks is chosen, the user will not receive another prompt for 2 weeks.)
Once the Accept option is selected, the browser will prompt you to Allow Notifications from the website, Selecting Allow, as shown below, completes the notification enablement process.

Once notifications are enabled for your browser, there are three event types that will trigger a desktop notification (see below for examples):
- If someone mentions you in the secure conversations of a Trusted Share
- If someone sent a message in the secure conversations of a Trusted Share
- If someone uploads files/folders into a Trusted Share

Troubleshooting - Notifications are not Appearing
There may be cases where the user has accepted the prompt for desktop notifications, however they are not receiving the notifications as expected. It is likely that notifications for the browser have been disabled/blocked for the whole browser. To rectify this, the user can re-enable notifications in two places.
To start, while on the cloud web portal page navigate to the URL Address bar at the top of your window, Select the lock to the left of the website URL. Once the lock is selected, a small window will appear that shows permissions for the site, check the notifications section to see if Block is enabled. If Block is enabled, click the drop-down menu and select Allow.
Another place to check if notifications are being blocked is in your browser settings. Follow the steps described below for your default browser (Edge or Chrome):
Microsoft Edge
- In the top right of your browser, select the 3 dots to show the menu and select Settings.
- Within Settings, select the Cookies and site permissions tab, then scroll down and select Notifications.
- Ensure the Ask before sending (recommended) is enabled, otherwise notifications are blocked by default.
Google Chrome
- In the top right of your browser, select the 3 dots to show the menu and select Settings.
- Within Settings, select the Privacy and Security tab, then select Site Settings.
- In Site Settings, scroll down until you find Notifications and select it.
- Under Default Behavior, Ensure the Sites can ask to send notifications is enabled, otherwise notifications are blocked by default .
Unsubscribing from Notifications
After a user opts in and allows desktop notifications, they do have the option to unsubscribe from the notifications if they no longer wish to receive them.
First, the user must navigate to their eShare cloud web portal (i.e secure.yourcompanynameandbrand.com). From the portal, select your username in the top right corner of the page to open the drop-down menu, then select Account Settings.
From Account Settings, scroll down to the bottom of page, under Push notifications you will see an Unsubscribe button, select this button and the Push notifications status will change to Disabled. You will no longer receive notifications unless you Subscribe again at a later time.
