- Why did eShare arrive at this decision?
The use of Service Principal to authorize eShare to access OneDrive and SharePoint on behalf of the user has become the overwhelming preference of our clients. Since its introduction in April 2022, virtually all new clients have opted to use Service Principal over service accounts, primarily based on security considerations. Further, the deep integrations we were seeking with Teams and SharePoint, as evidenced by our SharePoint and Teams Apps, were only possible using Microsoft’s Graph API. These two factors combined to make service principal and Graph API the optimal choice for both existing and new clients.
- How will users be impacted by this change?
Users will not be impacted in any way. All services and functionality of the eShare platform when using service accounts are available to users when eShare administrators move the integration to service principal. If anything, users are impacted in a beneficial way, in that they now can initiate and manage their Trusted Shares using the native M465 UX (with the install of the Teams and SharePoint Apps).
- What resources are available to migrate to Service Principal and Graph API?
Your eShare Customer Success Manager is available to answer any questions and assist you, if needed, in obtaining any needed internal approvals for the permissions that eShare’s application will require. They can also step you through the online permissioning process and guide you in performing checks to ensure the process was completed successfully.
